Bruce Curtis, Cofounder and Executive Director
Bruce has extensive experience with nonprofit management, blindness/visual impairment, product development/management, and product marketing. Before cofounding BrailleInk., Bruce coordinated the development, production and launch of the Perkins Panda Early Literacy Program, a collection of materials developed by Perkins School for the Blind. Other prior work experience has focused on nonprofit consulting and international development in Sri Lanka, Haiti and the United States. His work with BrailleInk. is now part-time, and he is continuing his career in product development/management and marketing. His education includes a B.A. in History from Columbia University, an MBA from Babson College with a focus on entrepreneurship, and studies in Kenya and France. He lives in Austin, Texas, and enjoys various outdoor activities, cooking, and playing the banjo.
Eric Ligon, Cofounder and President
Associate Professor of Communication Design, University of North Texas
Eric created the page format used by BrailleInk. to solve problems he and his wife encountered as they tried to share books with one of their sons, who is blind. He has been a featured presenter at conferences on literacy and books in Vancouver, British Columbia; Beijing and Cambridge, England. He lives in Denton, Texas with his wife, Leslie, and two sons, Ethan and Spencer.
John Newman, Treasurer
Managing Partner, Brookstone Associates
John has 20 years’ experience designing, teaching and directing entrepreneurship and management programs at Boston University, Babson College and Hult International Business School. He was named professor of the year at Babson and Hult and identified by Business Week as one of six contributors to the success of small businesses in the U.S. in the 1990’s.
John is also a visiting professor at universities in Argentina and Ecuador and has consulted with the World Bank, European Union, and universities and corporations worldwide, particularly in Latin America. He received his B.A. in economics from The University of California at Santa Barbara and his MBA from the Harvard Business School.
Raphael Grunschlag
Director of Investment Banking, Merrill Lynch International
Raphael is an investment banker with Merrill Lynch in London, responsible for European technology companies, and has ten years’ experience advising clients on financing and strategic matters. Previously, Raffa worked at Credit Suisse First Boston and Hambrecht & Quist. He holds a B.A. and M.A. from Columbia University.
Dr. Cay Holbrook
Associate Professor, The University of British Columbia
Cay is a well-known leader in the field of blindness and visual impairment. She is the editor of Children with Visual Impairments: A Parents Guide, one of the primary resources for parents of children with visual impairments, for which she is currently writing and editing a second edition. In addition, Cay has written numerous scholarly articles and been a featured presenter at conferences across North America. In 2000, she became the first recipient of the Holbrook-Humphries Literacy Award. Sponsored by a grassroots group of teachers of the blind and visually impaired, the award is given for outstanding contributions to the advancement of literacy for individuals who are blind or have low vision.
